If you’re a beach lover with a hankering to hit the slopes, here are some famous beach destinations which also have great options for skiing.
Dubai, UAE
The indoor slopes at Ski Dubai
For a desert city, Dubai has some truly outstanding ski slopes. In keeping with the city’s well-known desire to be bigger and better, the epic Ski Dubai is a gigantic 22,500 square metre indoor ski resort. Features available include a 85-metre high mountain, the world’s first indoor black diamond run, and a variety of slopes designed to cater to everyone, from beginners to professional athletes.
As part of the Mall of the Emirates (one of the world’s biggest shopping centres), Ski Dubai is easy to reach from the city centre. Or you can book one of the Aspen Ski Chalets at the Kempinski Hotel which offer a view directly over the ski slopes.
Barcelona, Spain
The Pyrenees, near La Molina
Despite its reputation for sun-drenched festivals and al fresco dining, Barcelona is also well set up for skiing. The Pyrenean ski resorts like La Molina are only a two hour drive from the city, giving you time to fit in a sunny stroll along La Ramblas before hitting in the slopes in the afternoon.
If you prefer to dedicate a few days to the slopes, Vall de Núria is perfect for an overnight stay. Thi

Sydney, Australia
Miles of skiing, without the crowds
Sydney is home to some of Australia’s best known beaches – including the multifaceted Bondi Beach – but the city also offers (relatively) easy access to the slopes. Just a few hours drive from Sydney is Australia’s highest ski resort – Thredbo, where you’ll find snowy mountain views, ski lodges, and enough hot chocolate to trick yourself into thinking you’re in the Alps.
Alternatively Charlotte Pass is well worth an extra 8km drive. Thanks to restricted access to vehicles and regular snowfall throughout the winter months, this hidden gem offers miles of skiing, without the crowds.
